Healthy Snacks for Truck Drivers

Being a truck driver, it can be challenging to find healthy snacks on the go. Some drivers are home weekly or even nightly, which can make it significantly easier to pack healthy for the drive. But for other drivers, that can be a more significant concern. Healthy snacks for truck drivers don’t have to be fancy things like baked kale chips or specially dried beef jerky from a remote farm in Greenland. It can be simple basics you can find even at a truck stop.

Many choose convenience over health when traveling and eating, and what if you could have both? What if you could have convenience and health at the same time?

Here are three healthy snacks for truck drivers to look for in the truck stop the next time you stop.

1. Fresh fruit
Don’t get caught in the weeds about what fruit has what sugars and which fruits cause weight loss and which don’t. In the beginning, eating natural fruits is 100% better than a bag of skittles, a candy bar, or donuts. Don’t allow yourself to villainize fresh fruits. Fresh fruit is packed with vitamins and minerals that you need every day, and if you aren’t eating them, you aren’t getting them. How about an apple a day? An apple is rich in fiber had Vitamin C, Vitamin B, and even magnesium, all essential to your health. The high fiber helps fight against certain types of cancer (colon). And the pectin in apples may even have antioxidant properties.

2. Hummus

Hummus is a travel-friendly dip that can be paired with just about anything. Most truck stops sell hummus in travel-friendly containers, making it into healthy snacks for truck drivers. Pair hummus with pretzels, carrots, celery, or even add it to a burger or eat it with healthy crackers for a crunchy treat. You can easily dress up hummus with pepper, garlic, or any other seasonings you have in your truck. The sky is the limit. Hummus is low fat and loaded with potassium, has protein, and can help fill you up when you would otherwise want to snack.

3. Hard-Boiled Eggs
Almost every travel center and truck stop sell hard-boiled eggs. Hard-boiled eggs travel well and are the perfect mini-meal or snack when you go. Healthy snacks for truck drivers don’t have to be made at home or require a lot of prep on the truck. You can start simple and start small. Hard-boiled eggs are an excellent source of protein without packing too many calories, which can be helpful if you are trying to lose weight. Add a little salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, slice up your eggs and eat them on a cracker. Add a slice of cheese or even pair it with a piece of avocado and a slice of raw onion, all of which can be found at a truck stop. Get creative, and keep it simple.
